Design is the process of innovation. The featured photos display an extremely practical application of cutting-edge design. Pictured is a bio-reactor on the River Tees in London, England, designed by Heatherwick Studios. It displays a cohesive image of what good design is and, at the same time, deftly illustrates the realistic and much needed evolutionary impulse which drives culture forward. Design is art in application. Culture, and the societies founded upon culture, are unequivocally dependent upon fresh design in order to move forward within the greater context of human advancement.
If design is innovation, and innovation be a crucial factor which defines market operations -- that is to say, if the iPhone sells more than the Droid because of meaningful and thought-out design, then this moves to advance the entire industry forward in technological advancement. Art, and the emotions stirred by its unveiling, is the critical component of every-day life that we find in friendship and personal relationships. Culture, art, and design, are the ways by which the collective of society embodies and cherishes the emotional impulses it deems of value. Design, is therefore, a critical component of not only technological advancement, but cultural exchange. It is, in short, necessary innovation.
